Using our photographs

Every photograph on this site was made by Nick and Allie Friesen and is © Friesen Co. Here is what you can do with them, in plain terms.

This page is the rights statement referenced in the embedded metadata of every image we publish. If you arrived here from an image credit, you are in the right place.

Who owns these photographs?

Every photograph on this site is the copyright of Friesen Co. Nick and Allie Friesen made each frame and hold all rights under US copyright law. The images carry embedded IPTC copyright metadata naming Friesen Co as creator. No image here is stock, licensed in, or generated. We photographed all of it.

The credit line for any use is: Friesen Co · friesen.co

Can I share an image for personal use?

Yes. You may share images from this site for personal, noncommercial use if you credit Friesen Co and link to friesen.co where the platform allows a link. Keep the image intact. Do not crop out context, run it through filters, or strip the embedded copyright metadata.

Pinning, saving to an inspiration board, or sending a frame to your planner all count as personal use. Go ahead.

Can I license an image for editorial or commercial use?

Yes, by request. Email hello@friesen.co with the image URL, where it will appear, the run length, and the territory. We reply within 48 hours. Editorial features of weddings we photographed are usually straightforward. Commercial use is quoted per image and per use, and always requires written permission first.

Before an image of a recognizable couple runs anywhere new, we confirm with the couple. Publications should build a day or two into their timeline for that step.

What is not permitted?

Without a written license from us, you may not:

  • Sell, sublicense, or redistribute an image
  • Sell prints or products that include an image
  • Use an image in advertising or on a commercial website
  • Include an image in an AI or machine-learning training set
  • Remove the credit or the embedded copyright metadata
  • Imply that Friesen Co endorses a product, venue, or service

Venues and vendors from a wedding we photographed can request images for their own marketing by email. The usual condition is a visible credit.

What if we photographed your wedding?
