Sean and Maria. An Engagement Session in Sundance Square, Fort Worth.

Fort Worth’s Sundance Square is an architecture lover’s downtown: art deco limestone, deep carved archways, granite underfoot. Sean and Maria dressed like they knew it, her in a champagne pleated skirt, him in navy and cream, and the whole session read like it had been art-directed weeks in advance.

It had not. We walked, we found the archways, and the two of them did the rest. Maria’s emerald engagement ring earned its own frame, held up against pale stone where the green does all the talking. Some of our favorite images from the day are the small ones: two pairs of shoes toe to toe on the granite, photographed in black and white because the moment did not need color.

An engagement session in a downtown like this one is half portraits, half scouting trip. By the end we knew exactly how they move together, which is the entire point of doing this before the wedding.
